The name is long but the concept for 2021 Topps Archives Signature Series Baseball: Retired Player Edition is pretty simple. Like the earlier Active Player Edition, all cards are autographs.
There’s some built in nostalgia beyond the checklist that’s all retired players. Instead of printing entirely new cards, they’re buybacks — original Topps cards from the past.
Signatures come on-card. There’s also a special foil stamp that’s been added, noting the year it’s from.
Everything also has a serial number matched to a specific card. Often with Archives Signature Series, players will sign several different cards. This helps keep print runs down, including an abundance of one-of-ones. This also makes a master checklist tough. Typically, Topps releases a list of signers available in the product but not a checklist of every individual card.
A small number of dual autographs are also available.
