2019-20 Upper Deck Series 2 Hockey cards continue to round out the flagship release with an expanded base set, more inserts and, of course, Young Guns. The updates don’t end there, though. 2019-20 O-Pee-Chee, which came out before the start of the season, expands with vets in new uniforms and debuting rookies.
2019-20 Upper Deck Series 2 Hockey Base Set Basics
The checklist adds another 250 cards to the main set with numbering continuing from Series 1. Staying true to form, 200 feature veterans not in the first release. Things round out with 50 Young Guns Rookies Cards (49 players plus one checklist). Young Guns are short prints, landing 1:4 hobby packs. This provides a moderate challenge for set builders.
Parallels include Exclusives (/100) and High Gloss (/10). Acetate Clear Cut are a hobby exclusive. Veterans are 1:96 packs while Young Guns are 1:288.
Select base cards also have tough Photo Variations, which are 1:1,000 hobby packs.
Inserts
UD Canvas is one of the cornerstone inserts in 2019-20 UD Series 2. A set within the main set, these offer up base-style cards done on different card stock. The checklist for these is broken down into several section with regular cards being the most common (1:8 hobby packs). Additional subsets include Young Guns (1:48), Team Canada Program of Excellence (1:192) and Retired Stars (1:192).
Canvas cards have one-of-one Printing Plate parallels.
The brightly colored Fluorescence inserts are back for a third installment. The rookie-only inserts come in four colors: Gold (/150), Blue (/50), Green (/15) and Magenta (/5).
UD Portraits Rookies (1:6) is another place where the checklist is dedicated to first-year players. Parallels for these include Gold Foil (/99) and Platinum Blue Foil (/25).
A second group of St. Louis Blues players get Day with the Cup inserts (eight cards, 1:1,000), showcasing their personal time with the Stanley Cup.
Among the other inserts are Rookie Breakouts (/100) and Shooting Stars Rookies (1:360, Red parallels – 1:1,440).
Like Series 1, hits aren’t a guaranteed box hit. However, they’re not totally absent, either. Rookie Materials are the most common memorabilia cards, landing 1:55 hobby packs. Patch versions have 25 copies each.
Additional relics can be found in Rookie Photo Shoot Flashback Materials (1:576, Patch parallels /15) and Rookie Dual Materials (1:576, Patch parallels /10).
O-Pee-Chee Updates
O-Pee-Chee Update cards cover both veterans (1:24) and rookies (1:6).
All of these have five levels of parallels: Blue Border (Vets 1:120, Rookies 1:30), Gold Border (Vets 1:960, Rookies 1:240), hobby-only Red Border (Vets 1:1,230, Rookies 1:307), Retro (Vets 1:60, Rookies 1:15), and Retro Black Border (/100).
